Well, Kelsey’s Woods was originally three band members, then four, then back to three…they’ve even been down to two where they’re better known as D-n-R (Dave and Russ), but they’ve also been back up to three…just a different three, where they are known as Large Marge and the 18 Wheelers (Dave, Russ, and Andrew), but I think I like five! Yes, Kelsey’s Woods as we now know it has five band members and they absolutely rocked T-Bones in Chattanooga, TN Saturday night! The band is led by original band members Dave Kennedy who takes on the responsibility of song writing, lead vocal, and rhythm guitar and Russ Torbett on upright bass and essentially the band’s manager. But let’s not forget the very talented Andrew Bryant who has been helping KW on the drums for a while now and when you add in new band members, Will Carter on lead guitar and jamming keyboardist Stevie Jones…you have created something really special!
Kelsey’s Woods may once have been described as a Bluegrassy, Country, Americana type band where they had some old time fiddle, bass, rhythm guitar, and some incredible lyrics! But think country-rock now! Think Southern Rock? Think a little Black Crowes mixed with John Cougar Mellencamp, Tom Petty, Waylon Jennings, and Bruce Springsteen all rolled up into one! Ya, I know! Hard to imagine…but it flat out rocks! I’ll be a fan of KW no matter what genre they decide to take on but believe you me I think they’ve got something here! Their fan base continues to grow and they’re going to be playing some pretty good size shows coming up in the near future. While they are packing T-Bones in Chattanooga and other bars in Knoxville and Cookeville, look for shows with Shooter Jennings over Memorial Day weekend in Maryville, TN and on June 15th on the final night of the Riverbend Festival in Chattanooga, TN www.riverbendfestival.com which will have over 100,000 people in attendance. I have no doubt that fan base I was speaking of might just explode!
KW busted out a 10 minute Waylon medley last night that I happened to catch on film. Be sure to check it out here on ChattaCountry Videos and we also heard some new songs Dave’s been working on. I think I might have found a new one to be my favorite and that is the song “Jezebel”! I can’t wait to hear this in a huge crowd at Riverbend because I think the place will go nuts. I was amazed to find out that KW has only played as a band of five three or four times now and has never actually practiced as five yet. Its hard to believe, but if that’s true, I can’t wait to hear them after a few rehearsals! If you haven’t seen Kelsey’s Woods before or if it’s been a while, you don’t want to miss out any longer. Things may have changed a little bit since your last visit. Make plans to be at one of these two upcoming shows! And as always please don’t forget our mission here at ChattaCountry...remember that You Create The Demand! So go out…spread the music…provide your local station with recordings…and then wear their phone lines out requesting it!
