The world will finally get to know what those of us in Chattanooga have already known for some time now, and that is the true talent of Channing Wilson. Years of hard work are finally coming to fruition as Channing Wilson will be joining the 3rd Annual Country Throwdown Tour this summer. Starting in late May, a large group of talented artists will take to the road for a little over a month playing all over the country. I had the privilege of seeing the stop in Knoxville, TN last summer when Willie Nelson was the headliner. The great thing about the Throwdown Tour is how they introduce a lot of young artists to the road. The Country Throwdown Tour is a huge day of country music on a number of stages. This year’s tour will headline Gary Allan.
I expect that Channing will be part of the Bluebird Cafe’ Stage where singer/songwriters entertain throughout the day in between band changes. It’s an incredible atmosphere and a great opportunity to catch some of country’s most up and coming artists.
For those of you who don’t know Channing Wilson, he hails from LaFayette, GA, just a fews miles south of Chattanooga, TN. He started out with a band known as The Tennessee Rounders (that included Outlaw Country Artist Peewee Moore) and they gained quite a following before they eventually split up. Since then, Channing has been playing solo and racking up the songs. He’s opened up for a number of big names including Billy Joe Shaver. He signed with EMI Publishing for a writing deal a little over a year ago and recently moved to Nashville. He writes regularly with Guy Clark as well as number of other great artists. 2012 is going to be an exciting year for Channing Wilson and his fans.
