On Monday, April 9, the 17th Annual Hey, Loretta! Hillbilly Hoedown and Pie Social will take place at the Continental Club in Austin, Texas featuring a who’s who of Austin musicians paying tribute to one of the greatest Country artists of all time.
Are you hungry for some real country music, female style? Are you hungry for a chance to help out a good cause? Are you just plain hungry? Then hot-foot it down to the Continental Club on Monday, April 9 at 9 p.m. for “Hey, Loretta!”, a Hillbilly Hoedown and Pie Social, in tribute to country music legend Loretta Lynn. Proceeds will benefit the SIMS Foundation.
“Hey, Loretta!” showcases the finest honky-tonk gals around, including Marcia Ball, Mary Huff (Southern Culture On the Skids), Rosie Flores, Marti Brom, Brennen Leigh, Amber Digby, Miss Leslie, Teri Joyce, Libbi Bosworth, Susanna Van Tassel, Shelley King, Janet Lynn, Beth Chrisman, Jenn Miori, and Caroline Casey, just to highlight a few. Joining in to recreate Loretta’s pure country Conway Twitty/Ernest Tubb duets are the luminous Bill Kirchen, Ted Roddy, Dave Gonzalez, Miles Zuniga, Rick Broussard, Roger Wallace, Brian Hofeldt, Noel McKay, and more. A highlight of the hoedown is the coolest pie auction this side of Butcher Holler, offering pies baked by the lovely ladies performing. This year’s pie auctioneer is showman extraordinaire Bill Kirchen. Loretta met her husband, Doolittle “Mooney” Lynn, at a pie social when she was 13. Her birthday is April 14.
And “Hey, Loretta!” proudly presents the Continental Coal Miners band, featuring drummer Lisa Pankratz, Dave Biller on steel guitar, Randy Lindley on lead guitar and banjo, Brad Fordham on bass, and pianist T Jarrod Bonta.
Country singer and event organizer Teri Joyce (read Outlaw’s review of her release Kitchen Radio here) puts on a terrific show featuring stellar musicians, great country music, and a whole-hoedown-lotta fun every year. “I can’t believe we’ve been doing this show for so long, and I can’t believe how much bigger it gets every year, ” says Joyce. ” Where else in the world are you going to find this much talent playing real live country music, all in the same room? Not on any ‘Country Music’ award show that I’ve seen lately. It’s a great time for a great cause, and I’m so proud to be a part of it. Now come ‘n get it, fellers!”
Doors open at 8:30, with a $10 donation at the door, benefitting the SIMS Foundation. The SIMS Foundation has provided mental health and addiction recovery services for Austin-area musicians and their families since 1995.
